Solutions Case Study:

Freelance Wedding & Portrait Photographer

The Background

For some background, the freelance photographer that is at the center of this solutions study is based in South Denver, and is actively taking on new clients.

The photographer feels inspired by the Rocky Mountains, and often goes on location for their shoots.

As part of the client’s gracious participation in our case study series, they have requested to remain anonymous.

The Problem

The photographer had a five alarm data disaster!

Their main storage system was a multi disk NAS from 2019 equipped with 5 slow hard drives.

Owing to the glacial slowness of their old storage box, the photographer resorted to storing their working photos and edits in progress on 3 additional storage disks of varying size.

The photographer is also splitting their long term data storage between two more large external hard disk drives + the old box.

data disaster in progress

The photographer found themselves wasting a huge amount of time each day overseeing and organizing their data between their 6 different storage locations.

Unfortunately with this system, edits in progress kept going missing, and customer photos would often end up misplaced.

This constant drain began to affect the photographer’s productivity, and they had to start turning away work because their other jobs were taking so long to complete.

With the steadily increasing amount of wasted time, and the productivity losses racking up, the photographer decided that something had to be done.

The Tech “Expert”

The photographer found a tech “expert” who “promised” that they could get the photographer’s data fixed right up.

Unfortunately, the “expert” didn’t understand the photographer’s actual needs.

The “expert” proposed a wildly overkill solution, complete with 5 rack-mount data storage servers, 10 hard drives, and a custom magnetic tape backup system.

This “expert” solution also included a required $600/mo retainer for the “expert” on top of the 10,000+ dollar startup expense.

This massive upfront and ongoing expense was unacceptable to the photographer.

There had to be a better way.

The Solution

Shortly after the first attempt with the tech “expert”, the photographer, while searching for a better answer, discovered Uncloud Storage.

When comparing solutions, our unique one-click photo backup, our rapid data recovery system, and our strong AI photo theft protection, stood out above the rest of the options.

The photographer quickly decided that our artist-first data backup and recovery system was the right fit for their creative business.

After learning about the photographer’s exact business needs alongside their shoot and burn workflow, we recommended that the photographer should sign up for Uncloud Plus 4TB.

We set up the photographer with our included onboarding service, where we taught the photographer exactly how to get the most out of our product.

The photographer quickly came up to speed, and was able to incorporate our artist-first data backup solution alongside parts of their existing data storage system.

The photographer ended up using Uncloud Storage to streamline backing up and protecting their current jobs, while dedicating the old NAS and external drives to extra backup copies of old data.
